FAQ about hair transplant surgery: hair transplant and hair loss information.
1.Consultation
How can I make an appointment for a consultation with Dr Devroye ?
Just contact the office, either by phoning or by e-mail.
Where will the consultation take place?
The majority of all consultations take place in Brussels. We regularly organize consultations in Spain (Madrid) and France (Paris).
The consultation is free and lasts about one hour.
Is it compulsory to meet Dr Devroye before the hair transplant surgery?
Every patient must meet the surgeon prior to any intervention. A full exam comprising a capillary check-up will be performed. The physician will discuss the best possible strategy and based on this, will draw up an estimate.
4. The surgery
How can I plan the date for my hair transplant?
All you need to do is contact my secretary, by phone or by email. We will give you an appointment at your convenience.
Do I need to have my hair cut prior to the intervention?
For a FUT surgery, you should avoid cutting the hair in your donor zone in order to hide the scar. A length of 2 cm is sufficient to make the scar undetectable. For the FUE technique, we will cut the hair before the surgery in our clinic.
Generally speaking the intervention takes place early in the morning and ends by late afternoon.
Are there breaks during the day?
Given that anaesthesia is local, you will be able to stand up several times during the day, to relax, to eat or even follow the cutting process.
Does Dr Devroye only use microscopes for cutting?
Yes, the grafts are only cut under a microscope in order to guarantee the best possible quality.
How many grafts can be transferred in one day?
For FUT, depending on the quality of the donor zone, 2,500 to 3,000 grafts can be transferred, sometimes even a little more, or 5,000 to 8,000 hairs.
For FUE an average of 1400 to 1700 grafts can be transferred in one day (please refer to the chapter on FUE).
Is Dr Devroye personally in charge of all the essential steps of hair transplant surgery?
Yes. Dr Devroye will remove the strip, create the incisions and will be in charge of part of the placement.
How much does surgery cost?
Please refer to the chapter on prices.
How about payment?
All payment provisions will be provided to you on simple request.
Does the patient pay per number of grafts or per number of hairs?
The price is calculated in function of the number of grafts implanted.
5. Transport
I live abroad. Is it possible to organize my journey for me? Can you take care of reserving a hotel room for me?
Yes, we will be in charge of reserving a hotel room for you for the night prior to surgery as well as the night following surgery, The patient should assure his own transport.
Will I be picked up at the airport?
You will be picked up at the airport (Brussels International Airport-Zaventem) and dropped off at your hotel.
Is the hotel far from the clinic?
The hotel is only a 10-minute walk from the clinic. You will be given directions on the day of your arrival in Brussels in order to locate the clinic.
If I do not speak French, will there be a communication issue?
No, Dr Devroye and some of his assistants also speak English and Spanish.
May I be accompanied on the day of my surgery?
Of course. You may be accompanied. However certain supplementary costs, such as the overnight stay at the hotel will be added to your bill.
When must I arrive in Brussels for surgery?
We prefer that you arrive in Brussels the day before surgery.
If I don’t live in Belgium, when can I return home?
Excluding exceptions, you can return home the day after surgery after having visited the clinic for a review. This appointment generally takes place in the morning.
For those who wish to spend a few days in Belgium after surgery, you can visit Dr Devroye regularly for consultations.
